Genealogy
A visit to Fairlynch Museum offers several avenues to enhance your knowledge of your local family, remembering that we are a Museum not a Record Office. Our PC in the Local History Room has online access and you can use this to search sites such as, Free BMD (Births, Marriages and Deaths) and Free Cen (Census returns from 1841).
Also on this PC is a very large collection of documents containing details of over 230 local family names and many generations of the same family. We have also family trees that have been donated to us in paper format, which can be produced on request. We have an extensive collection of photographs covering the last hundred years; many of them are of people. Transcriptions of the East Budleigh Parish Registers are on the shelves.
For visitors wanting a little more help, an experienced genealogist who has access to online specialist websites, is available by appointment, to steer you in the right direction. This service is free in the museum, we only charge for the copying of documents or photographs. If a request is made via our contact page however we do ask for a small donation.
